SOLAR STANDARD UPDATE!

The first Public Comment Period for the brand new “BSR/ICC 903/SRCC 500, Solar Tank Standard” is now available! This standard aims to unify safety and performance benchmarks for solar thermal systems, addressing gaps in previous certifications.

Public comments will be accepted from May 3, 2023 to July 3, 2023. Stakeholders are encouraged to submit feedback to shape requirements for water heaters and storage tanks in solar applications. Comments submission form and other details can be found at the ICC-SRCC Standards Development Portal.

Main Changes
Prior to this new standard, water heaters and storage tanks were typically certified to UL 174 (electrical type) and ANSI Z21.10.1 or ANSI Z21.10.3 (gas types). With the new standard, water heaters & water storage tanks to be used in a solar thermal system (including solar pool systems) will need to be certified to BSR/ICC 903/SRCC 500 in addition to either the UL or ANSI standards. LabTest’s expertise in Solar Collector Certification ensures seamless compliance for solar pool heaters and residential systems.
