UKCA News! Important updates & deadline extensions announced on Nov. 14, 2022

UKCA NEWS! – Yesterday, Nov. 14th, the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy made the important announcement that the deadline for mandatory UKCA marking has been extended even further.

The CE and reversed epsilon marking for most goods being placed on the GB market has been extended until December 31, 2024. This will allow businesses placing goods on the GB market, to use the UKCA or CE marking until then.

The following additional updates were also made to the measures that were announced in June this year:

  • To reduce labelling costs, businesses will be allowed to affix the UKCA marking and to include importer information for products from EEA countries (and in some cases, Switzerland) on an accompanying document/label until December 31, 2027.
  • To reduce re-testing costs, manufacturers will be allowed to use conformity assessment activities for CE marking undertaken by December 31, 2024 as the basis for UKCA marking, until the expiry of the certificate or until December 31, 2027, or whichever is sooner.

To be noted that different rules apply for medical devices, construction products, cableways, transportable pressure equipment, unmanned aircraft systems, rail products, and marine equipment.
