Richmond, BC-based LabTest Certification Inc. (LabTest) is an independent Testing and Certification Body (CB) accredited by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC). LabTest is a customer-oriented Certification Body accredited to test and certify various product categories for the North American marketplace, in accordance with the National product safety standards for Canada (CSA standards) and the USA (UL standards).
LabTest has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the China Guangzhou Electrical Safety Testing Institute (CEST). This Chinese third-party and non-profit organization provides testing and certification services. CEST is approved by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People’s Republic of China (AQSIQ) and the Guangdong Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision. CEST is also a CCC-designated testing facility by Certification and Accreditation Administration of the People’s Republic of China (CNCA). This collaboration creates a direct pathway for Chinese producers to obtain product certification for these markets.
The partnership will allow CEST to provide local testing and factory inspection Services on behalf of LabTest to local Chinese businesses required to have their products certified for the Canadian and U.S. market as per the national product safety standards (CSA and UL). This localized approach provides accessible Testing and Certification services for Chinese manufacturers, reducing barriers caused by language, time zones, and the understanding of product certification.
One of the biggest challenges has been for the Chinese businesses to understand how to have the products certified for the North American marketplace. The local services offered by CEST will make it more convenient for these businesses to have access to a Certification Body accredited to certify products for the North American market.
“During my recent visit with local Chinese factories, it was very apparent that even with CSA and UL representation in China, many Chinese manufacturers did not understand the certification requirements and procedures for North America.
An even bigger concern was that they did not know where or how to apply to have their products tested and certified for the North American marketplace.
This was one of the leading reasons for LabTest to partner with a CEST to offer these Chinese companies a local service they need to sell their products in North America.
