EMC Testing

Need compliance with standards like MIL-STD-461? LabTest provides testing for Military, Aerospace, Marine, Automotive, and other industries. We are a world-leading company of Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) testing providers that offers the best service to clients around the globe.

Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Testing ensures that Electrical & Electronic equipment complies with the applicable regulatory requirements and therefore, that devices and systems can operate in there electronic environment without mutual interference.

The most common forms of EMC are known as electromagnetic emissions and electromagnetic immunities.

Around the world, many countries have set regulations that govern the use of EMC. For example, in Europe, the Directive 2014/30/EN for EMC sets the requirements for the control of immunities and emissions. In the United States, the FCC governs these requirements.

How LabTest Can Help with EMC

LabTest Certification Inc., an independent ISO 17025 accredited testing laboratory for North America, a Notified Body (NB) for EMC/RED EU Directives, and an Approved Body (AB) for EMC/RED U.K. Regulations is able to assist with all your product approval needs. We have established an excellent track record of providing first-class Electromagnetic Compatibility services.

With our 3-meter compliant EMC Anechoic Chamber (Immunity & Emissions) and our Fully Anechoic Chamber (FAC), we are able to provide you with more accurate results when compared with Open Area Test Site (OATS) data.

LabTest Certification is part of multiple international Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRAs), for testing and certification of Electrical & Electronic products for Australia, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Taiwan and other member countries of APEC.

Automotive

LabTest can conduct a full range of radiated emissions testing from >9kHz. For specialized and automotive component testing, LabTest is able to conduct radiated immunity testing up to 200 v/m, depending on the size of the component under test.

For products (referred to as sub-assemblies) that are designed to be installed in boats and vehicles, there are a number of required EMC/EMI RF emissions and immunity tests. A unique series of tests are required for sub-assemblies that are connected to the power system of the vehicles that use Internal Combustion engines.

This is to verify your sub-assemblies power input immunity to the various transient pulses that are caused by starting, stopping or operating the vehicle. These pulses are based on the ISO 7637-2 and ISO 16750-2 standards. They are referred to as pulse types 1,2,2a,2b,3a,3b,4 and 5.

For products that are going to be installed into new vehicles, there may be additional or variations to these pulse types, depending on the manufacturer and model of vehicle.

This test, as well as other emissions and immunity tests, are mandatory by all products wanting compliance to the “E” mark as outlined in the “UN ECE Regulation 10 Revision 6“

Military

MIL-STD-461, This military test standard establishes the Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) requirements for equipment used by military forces around the world. This standard covers all branches and groups them into Army, Navy, Airforce, Surface Ships, Submarines, and Space.

EMC Testing Standards

LabTest can evaluate your Household, Commercial, Industrial, and Wireless products for EMC Emissions and Immunity.

As a quick reference, here are a few of the primary standards that are performed at our Richmond and Delta, BC (Canada) facilities:
