IT & Audio/Visual Equipment

Testing, Inspection & Certification

Information Technology (IT) and Audio/Visual equipment manufacturers aiming to sell products globally, must go through Safety and Performance testing and certification. Compliance with industry standards requires expertise in Electrical and Mechanical Safety and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC).

LC us NRTL

OSHA-Recognized NRTL

As an OSHA-recognized Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL), LabTest Certification provides product listing services to help manufacturers of Audio/Video and Information and Communication Technology Equipment meet U.S. regulatory requirements.

What is an NRTL?

A Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) is a private-sector organization that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has recognized as meeting the legal requirements in 29 CFR 1910.7 to perform testing and certification of products using consensus-based test standards.

Global Market Access for IT & Audio/Video Equipment

In addition to NRTL certification and listing for the United States, LabTest also offers testing, inspection, and certification of IT and Audio/Visual equipment for other international markets like Canada, Europe, the U.K., Australia, New Zealand, and more.

Certified products bearing the LC Certification Mark are products that have met the applicable standards’ requirements and, therefore, are compliant with their intended market regulations.

Prioritizing NRTL certification and product listing through accredited bodies like LabTest Certification helps manufacturers reduce the risks of delays or recalls. This process fulfills regulatory obligations and increases confidence in product safety and compliance.

About IEC 62368-1

The IEC 62368-1 standard is the next evolution when it comes to regulatory compliance for Audio/Visual (A/V) and Information Technology Equipment (ITE). Replacing the older 60065 and 60950-1 standards, it introduces a Hazard-Based Safety Engineering (HBSE) approach, shifting from rigid, prescriptive rules to a more flexible, risk-based methodology.

With 62368-1, manufacturers must rethink hazard mitigation at every stage—from design and construction to end-use—implementing safeguards tailored to different levels of potential risk. Hazards are categorized into three energy source levels, each requiring specific safety measures to ensure compliance.

This new, technology-independent approach gives manufacturers greater design flexibility while staying compliant. By moving away from the restrictive frameworks of 60065 and 60950-1, the HBSE methodology allows for simpler, more efficient designs, reducing costs associated with production, compliance, and the product life cycle.

The bottom line? Safer products, streamlined compliance, and lower costs.

Already Certified? Here’s What You Need to Know About 62368-1

If your product meets 60065 or 60950-1, does that mean it’s automatically compliant with 62368-1? Not necessarily.

The 62368-1 standard isn’t just a simple update—it’s a fundamental shift in how safety is evaluated. Unlike its predecessors, which followed a more rigid, prescriptive approach, 62368-1 uses a hazard-based methodology that assesses risks differently.

That means even if your product was previously certified under 60065 or 60950-1, you can’t assume compliance with 62368-1. A full design and component review is required to determine if any changes are needed to meet the new standard’s safety requirements.

Bottom line: If you haven’t reviewed your product under 62368-1, now’s the time. Let’s ensure your compliance before it impacts your market access.

HAZARDOUS LOCATIONS

IT/AV equipment used in potentially explosive environments, such as oil and gas facilities, underground mines, and gas stations, requires special attention when it comes to testing and certification to confirm that the equipment will not ignite flammable gas, liquid, vapor, or combustible dust. At LabTest Certification, we ensure your products meet the safety requirements for Hazardous Locations applications, using the IEC, UL, CSA, EN, BS 60079 standard series along with ordinary locations standards (North American market). From Classes/Division markings (Canada & U.S.A.) to new approach Zone markings (ATEX & IECEx), our services provide a One-Stop Solution for all your product compliance needs.

LabTest Certification is a recognized member of the IEC System for Certification to Standards Relating to Equipment for Use in Explosive Atmospheres (IECEx System).

ENVIRONMENTAL TESTING

As national and international standards evolve, environmental compliance is no longer optional—it’s a requirement across industries like Marine, Aviation, Transportation, and Military. With stricter regulations shaping product design and performance, manufacturers must adapt to meet these demands.

IEC 60068 series, MIL-STD-810, IP Testing to IEC 60529, including IP6K9K (steam clean at high-pressures) especially used in the automotive/trucking industries.

Examples of Tests:

  • Vibration Test

  • Temperature & Humidity Test

  • HALT and Failure Mode Analysis for Electronics

  • Altitude Test

  • Tests for Medical or Military Applications

  • And more.

Radio & Wireless Testing

In addition to the main EMC standards, LabTest also offers testing for Radio and Wireless devices in compliance with a wide range of transmitter standards.

In most systems, smart manufacturers use pre-approved transmitter modules, such as WiFi or Bluetooth.

Even when using a pre-approved module, manufacturers must verify that it remains compliant with applicable standards. This typically involves testing parameters like Peak Transmitter Power and Transmitter Spurious Emissions, following FCC KDB 996369 D04 Module Integration Guide and ETSI EG 203 367.

If a product includes a transmitter, such as a WiFi module, it must also be tested for compliance with:

  • Europe  ETSI 301 489-17 Emissions and Immunity tests for Radio Equipment

  • USA FCC Part 15/C and 15.247 Transmitter Emissions

  • Canada RSS-Gen and RSS-247 Transmitter Emissions
