LabTest Provides PPE Verification Services for Non-Powered Air Purifying Respirators!
Delta, BC (Canada) – LabTest Certification Inc., an accredited Canadian Certification Body providing product Testing and Certification to manufacturers globally, announced a few months ago the addition to its already vast Scope of Accreditations, the LC Verification and Testing for Non- Powered Air Purifying Respirators such as N95, N99, and N100, as per the requirements set by Health Canada and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).
What these new services include?
The new services include Airflow Resistance test and Particulate Filtration Efficiency (PFE) test to NIOSH 42 CFR Part 84.
With the increased global demand for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), during the COVID-19 pandemic, LabTest Certification wanted to have a role in the verification of PPE to ensure that products are in compliance and labelled with the rated markings.
The LabTest Verification Program will ensure that products marked with the “LC PPE” mark are legitimate.
As part of the program, surveillance activities will also be required to avoid any misrepresentation.
The LC PPE mark, affixed on the products, will provide users with the confidence that the PPE they are using complies with the required safety specifications and provides the minimum level of protection against the intended risk.
Kavinder Dhillon, President of LabTest Certification Inc. said, “Finding ourselves caught in the COVID-19 Pandemic, like everyone else, and learning that large percentages of PPE being supplied/delivered to the frontline workers was and still is found to be below standards, we had to help.
As an accredited Testing and Certification Body, we felt that the best way to help was to invest in and develop a PPE Verification Program, including inhouse testing capabilities that would provide front line workers and the average person with some confidence that the PPE they are relying on for safety meets the minimum requirements as set by the Health Regulators.
One of the root causes for PPE that is being supplied and not meeting the requirements, is due to not having a formal certification program in place.
What would PPE Verification Program will require?
The LabTest PPE Verification Program will require both evaluation of PPE and ongoing surveillance of manufacturing facilities, in order for the product to be labelled with the LC PPE mark, which will assure the end user that the PPE is in compliance with the marked ratings.
For example, an N95 rated mask shall always provide minimum 95% particle filtration.
