  • The oil tank level gauge shall be inspected for any damage, aging, cracks, etc, and be verified to be operating properly at least annually.
  • All covers and lids shall be closed and securely fastened whenever the equipment is energized.
  • The level switches must be installed in accordance with CSA Control Drawing 960008826 B
  • When connecting the flanges the following procedure must be used.
    • (a) Hand tighten all bolts
    • (b) Using a cross bolting method tighten the nuts to 60 ft/lbs (720 in/lbs) (81N/m)
    • (c) Then using cross bolting method tighten all nuts to 120ft/lbs (91440 in/lbs) (163N/m) (d) Then using cross bolting method tighten all nuts to 180 ft/lbs (2160 in/lbs) (244N/m)
  • Only the following gaskets may be used:
    • (a) CG-6” 150lb 316 SS flange p/n NWL H29216, CG-6” 300lb 316 SS flange p/n NWL H29698
  • Only Cross 206 Mineral oil can be used. If Cross Grade 206 oil is not available, other equivalent oils are acceptable to be used only if they 1) meet the IEC296 / IEC60296 standards and 2) hold equivalent or better parameter specifications.
  • Connect the HVA (boot) only to certified bushings rated minimum of 25kvac / 34kvdc.
  • When installed the boot must be suitably earthed to the power supply and vessel using the stainless-steel gaskets provided with the HVA kit. The units must be suitably earthed to all local and national codes.
  • Only components provided by NWL for the installation must be used and installed in accordance to the NWL HVA Boot assembly drawing for the specific HVA being installed and this specific manual.
  • The level switches must be connected to a suitably rated SIL-1 (or better) or PLC (or better) rated safety circuit that automatically de-energizes all power to the equipment if the oil level falls below the minimum specified level.
  • The pressure switch output must be monitored by a control circuit that will automatically de-energizes all power to the equipment if the pressure exceeds 6.5PSI.
